To our elected Washoe County School District Board of Trustees and WCSD leaders, we, the undersigned residents, are calling on you to:
Quickly develop a WCSD policy that would mandate transparency about how much recess children at each school get during each school day and whether recess is ever withheld at that school.
Quickly develop a kid-centered WCSD intentional tech-use policy based on independent peer-reviewed research that's been published in Q1 journals.
Quickly reverse your vote to renew the expensive, unrequired i-Ready lesson platform for the 2026-27 school year, as there is no independent peer-reviewed evidence that it's helpful.
Quickly develop a WCSD policy that allows parents to easily opt their children out of weekly i-Ready lesson minutes and read physical books or do math on paper during that time instead.
Stop using the unrequired i-Ready reading assessment for students in grades 4-8 and the unrequired i-Ready math assessment for students in grades K-8, as they necessitate screen time to practice and have not improved academic performance.
