We're currently working with Nevada legislators to introduce a bill that would mandate more recess time during each school day and prohibit schools from withholding recess for academic or disciplinary reasons.
As it stands, some of our kids are getting as little as 15 minutes of recess during a six-hour school day. And with no funding for PE in our elementary schools, recess is their only opportunity to really move.
We're also taking steps to start the Nevada chapter of Say YES to RECESS. This is a national parent-led movement to change state recess laws based on decades of research showing recess improves student mental and physical health, as well as behavior and academic performance.
