i-Ready Opt Out Form
We have two versions of the i-Ready opt-out template available. One is a Word doc that you can type to alter, and the other is a PDF that you can print out and write on by hand. Both say the same thing.
A member of our coalition has successfully used these to opt their children out of both the i-Ready weekly lessons and assessments. You can choose if you only want to opt out of one or the other or both as you fill out the form. If you're unsure about what i-Ready even is, see our Instagram post here.
Both versions should be signed by hand and delivered or mailed to the school office each academic year. Advice from the parent who has done this: "Stand firm. Remember, you are not asking for permission. They need your consent. They cannot argue with a clear written expression of your lack of consent."
If you are opting your child out of the 3x yearly math and 3x yearly reading assessments, please speak with your child's teacher or watch for an email from the school announcing the time designated for i-Ready testing. They should be able to advise you on how long the testing period will take should you choose to keep your child home from school during those testing periods.
For more details on revoking consent for your child to use i-Ready in the Washoe Washoe County School District, please see our Substack article here.
