We are now registered as the official Washoe County chapter of Schools Beyond ScreensThis is a push for intentional tech use in the Washoe County School District, including only purchasing ed-tech tools with strong peer-reviewed evidence and reducing screen time whenever possible.

We're currently working to reverse the school board's May 12 vote to renew the online i-Ready lesson platform, which students as young as 5 are required by our district to use each week. The only state i-Ready requirement is the reading assessment for children in kindergarten through third grade, which the state funds as part of Nevada's Read By Grade 3 Law.

In the future, we may work with our state legislators to repeal this requirement, as it means our K-3 students must get used to screen time in order to be assessed by computer three times a year. Unfortunately, data shows the RBG3 law has not improved reading proficiency in our state or district since it was enacted in 2015.
